Development of cloud platform for RentSquare

RentSquare, a company born in the spirit of a startup, has a strong social impact as its main mission is to optimize the price of real estate in England (chiefly in London).

Being a startup, RentSquare’s development model is based Lean Methodology; so when we were approached to be its technological partner, the first hurdle we faced was a consequence of the importance placed on Time to Market and also by the custom of developing in many different technologies, languages and frameworks, as most startups practice. The scenario was similar at the level of infrastructure.

Description

Our first objective was to find a strategy that would allow us to grow together quickly without limitations. The next objective was to develop productively avoiding the pitfall of being influenced by impractical technological trends. And last but not least, we took on the challenge of achieving cost savings at the infrastructure and management levels.

Technologies

Azure
App Service
REST
– DocumentDB
– Azure Logic Apps
WebJobs
– Azure SQL Database

Thanks to Azure the initial investment in infrastructure was very manageable for the business. In addition, the ease of development and the accelerated speed of releases were especially important. The project had a heavy workload of integrations with third party services, which caused a very high saturation at certain times of the day. This situation would have been difficult to troubleshoot (from the perspective of hardware) having worked in an on-premise scenario. Azure has allowed us to scale our processes the way we want to, when we need to.
